Make sense bc most of us are very similar. Work in finance or wanna work in finance. And finance is a relatively small community. Watched the same movies, read the same books and interview guides, hate the same person(Sam shiah), and even the watch the same fucking YouTube channels(rareliquids, peak frameworks, you get the idea lmao). And most importantly, we are young ambitious, and love to challenge different opinions, could be for the better or worse depending on the situation. But I’d say yeah we find each other hilarious bc we see ourselves in each other.

totally agree with this - ib (and related fields) tend to be very self-selecting in that sense. i think there's even a huge difference (generally) between the types of people that go into ib vs consulting

but ya i love reading wso lmao no shame

lol usually i'd say there's a bunch of jackasses on this forum but this one is written very beautifully. Gives a sense of community (for the better or for worse)

Good take and this is why WSO can be a good place for off-topic stuff.  Thus I think people who try to say the point of WSO is career help (for the purpose of justifying heavy oversight/censorship of non-career threads), don't really understand the platform.  For the career stuff to work, you need experienced people to come to the site.  To get them, or at least a good number of them, you need content that extends beyond career stuff.

Funniest

The whole proposition of finance is funny. They take a group of the smartest, most motivated, intense, cut-throat people from the top schools every year and then stick them in cubicles and make them push paper for senile MDs who don't know how to work a calculator, let alone the audio of their zoom call. Even funnier is when even the MD is a cold blooded killer but the client you're all tripping over yourselves to impress is some cowboy from the midwest with a slaughterhouse piping company and no college degree.

I genuinely lol sometimes when my MD runs me ragged to impress a client and then proceeds to make us all look like buffoons anyway because he can't figure out his Zoom audio when it comes time to present our work. "Hello? Hello? Brian. Can you hear me Brian?! Brian. Brian. Brian. Brian. Brian can you hear me Brian. Okay Brian, I can hear you Brian. Scott can you hear me? Scott. Scott. Scott. Scott. Scott. Fuck Scott can't hear me my Zoom must be broke. Okay you guys can't hear me right now but I'm going to call in from my cell."

It's like bro get it together lmao we just worked all night on this deliverable to NOT look sloppy.

why be a 4.0 HYP cold-blooded killer breaking your back in 100-hour workweeks in a cubicle when you can be a cowboy from the midwest with a piping company and have HSW BB MDs lining up to give you deliverables? Legit, why

Just goes to show that serendipitously finding yourself in the right place at the right time (tripping over an above ground slaughterhouse pipe and realizing it would be a lot safer if it were subterranean for example), just once in life, can lead to greater upside than 60 years of hard & methodical work.

When you work on the debt side of things, you develop a refined sense of sarcasm thanks to numerous management presentations you get to participate in
