My shop has firm sponsored IMs for other parts of the company, but the bankers cannot have this program because it cannot be monitored like our emails. My understanding was that since they can't monitor it for FINRA, we are not allowed to use it. That being said, gchat works fine and I frequently use this as a form of inter analyst communication/scheming

alexpaschBanning that shit is stupid. There's a million potential time wasters, you can't block them all. Figure out how to properly motivate your employees and they won't even want to waste time.

Agreed... but at my old firm it seemed like outside email, Facebook, online message boards/forums, etc were all blocked not necessarily because they are time wasters but more because they provide an avenue to send and receive info, attachments, data, etc that could not be monitored by their systems. Interestingly, twitter was not blocked (probably because of the 140 character limit?) and linkedin worked but you could not access your inbox to send/receive messages.

Old job blocked everything beside thechive... not really sure why. Current job, blocks nothing but Espn...

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.
