PE Recruitment - Prefer to Leave NYC?

Hi - First year at a top BB (NYC) here preparing for PE recruitment process. Ideally targeting upper middle MM / MM PE firms; no interest in MF or growth equity. As I begin to think increasingly more about where I want to end up post-banking, geographically speaking, it would be very helpful to receive objective perspectives on the two questions below:

Firstly, if I would prefer to not stay in NYC for PE, will recruiters automatically give me less attention than others wanting to stay in NYC? Or will this be perceived positively and in a sense benefit me for the non-NYC opportunities?

As a follow-up to the above, are there are any recommendations for non-NYC PE locations? As of now, my list consists of: Boston, SF, and San Diego. Any others?

Sincerely appreciate any and all feedback / advice.
