Penn CAS vs Columbia College for Finance Pipelines
Deciding between Penn CAS and Columbia — IB → MF PE / HF or even straight to buyside (think BCP / Warburg / KKR / Tiger Cub-type funds). Would really appreciate candid takes.
Context: interested in high finance long term but not 100% set. Also considering pre-law as a possible pivot. Likely majors: econ / history / poli sci
From what I’ve gathered:
Penn:
* Probably the most consistent undergrad pipeline into IB and PE (PJT RSSG, GS TMT, SLP, Warburg, KKR, Tiger Cubs)
* Even outside Wharton, CAS kids still place very well if they're in the right clubs/networks
* Extremely structured recruiting funnel (clubs → alumni → internships → IB)
My dilemma is basically:
* Would going to Penn CAS limit my chances from IB/PE/HF as best opportunities are reserved for Wharton? Also if I find that I am not interested in finance and want to do pre-law which is better?
Questions:
* For MF PE (BX / KKR / Apollo-tier) and top HFs, is Penn CAS better than Columbia? How is Columbia viewed by headhunters?
* Does Columbia’s NYC access actually translate into better odds of recruiting or is it marginal?
* If the end goal is top-tier PE/HF but not 100% certain, where would you go? Which school holds more prestige in general?

Recommendation:
If your primary goal is top-tier PE/HF, Penn CAS is likely the better choice due to its finance pipeline and structured recruiting process. However, if you're leaning toward pre-law or value broader prestige and NYC access, Columbia could be a strong contender.

Those are Wharton Pipelines, not Penn pipelines. For MF PE that really depends on the bank you went to, and getting it out of undergrad presumably means you have an family connection already there
columbia fs
Wharton has good representation at MFs. unsure of columbia college. need more data
Columbia by far
Lol Penn Econ is closer to stern than it is to Columbia
people who are talking shit about Penn CAS likely didn’t even go to an ivy.. Wharton senior rn and hella CAS students and hardos @ Warburg and top EBs, it’s the Penn network umbrella that helps not specifically WHARTON.
