Penn State For IB
My Nephew has recently been looking at colleges to attend, and he seems dead set on Investment Banking. The two best schools he got into were Penn State and UDelaware. I am aware that these schools are non targets, but is it possible for him to break into IB from them.
Tell him to do better academically and transfer to a better school if he’s dead set on IB
How would that process work? Does transfering consider highschool grades? Im not sure he did amazing in hs so if hs grades are considered im not sure that transfering is an option for him.
Totally possible from Penn State. Strong existing alumni network on the street, which is integral in landing opportunities. PSU is already a target at a few of the big banks, and they've been steadily increasing their presence at places that don't traditionally recruit from the university as well. Joining the Nittany Lion Fund will also give him a leg up in terms of industry knowledge and interview prep, although it is possible to land an IB internship without it.
Penn State puts close to 30 kids on the street every year across IB, S&T, and WM. Totally possible if you join one of the three main finance orgs.
Tell him to get a 4.0 and transfer. Will heavily outweigh high school marks/SAT. If he gets top grades he can transfer to a good-to-great school that will bode very well in the short and long term. Schools like Cornell/Michigan/Georgetown/Vanderbilt etc are in play.
