Anyone have input on this platform called Pitchbook? Their niche seems to be private company data -- comps, transaction values, financials. I've also heard of something called Preqin, which seems to be free? Or at least freemium.
I obviously know about CapIQ and Factset. I've used both and currently use CapIQ, which definitely has the advantage on public comps. I heard it costs like >$50 grand for Pitchbook too.

Never heard of pitchbook (but might give its free trial a shot) - I have used Preqin for about six months now (mainly for HF research) and I like it. I think I use the paid platform and mainly use it for HF strategy index research or even for filtering to a specific hedge fund within an AUM range or strategy (can go even more advanced with volatility and return filters). Not sure how useful it is on private companies though since I've never used it in that respect.
Pitchbook is great for private company information, including transaction comps, capital raise details and contact info. Also great when researching financial sponsors and their portfolios and fund level returns analysis. Should cost ~$20k
Pitchbook is great but mostly used in VC and PE for understanding early stage companies. It's pretty expensive though, run over 15 or 20k per year
It's expensive and kind of sucks. We found a number of discrepancies, one of which a VP busted us for.
FactSet, CapIQ, Pitchbook... all kind of blow.
Our bank uses Pitchbook for fund sizes / investment preferences and finding out fundraising history for early stage companies. Super helpful IMO.
CapIQ for everything else though.
