PJT Strategic Advisory M&A - Associate role
Passed my case study modeling test (LBO & merger math). Next step is meeting 2 people on the Media/Comms team (2 VPs I think). Then if it goes well, HR will connect me with other teams. Should be behavioral & technicals. What should I expect? Am I cooked?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:
Behavioral Questions: Expect the usual "Why PJT?", "Why M&A?", and "Why Media/Comms?" questions. Be prepared to articulate your interest in the firm, the specific team, and how your skills align with their needs. Use the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) or SOAR (Situation, Obstacle, Action, Result) method to structure your answers effectively.
Technical Questions: Since you've already passed the case study modeling test, the technicals might focus on your thought process and ability to explain your work. Be ready to walk through your LBO and merger math models, explaining assumptions, sensitivities, and key drivers. They may also test your understanding of valuation methods, industry-specific metrics, and deal structuring.
Media/Comms Focus: Since you're meeting with the Media/Comms team, brush up on industry trends, recent deals, and key players in the sector. Demonstrating knowledge of the space and its unique challenges will set you apart.
Cultural Fit: PJT places a strong emphasis on culture. Show that you're collaborative, adaptable, and eager to contribute to the team. Be personable and professional in your interactions.
You're not "cooked" at all—passing the modeling test is a significant milestone. Focus on preparing for the behavioral and technical aspects while tailoring your responses to the Media/Comms team's focus. Good luck!
