PNC Corporate to Investment Banking

Hi everyone,

I will be interning at PNC this upcoming summer under their Commercial and Corporate Banking program under CIB, however I'm truly interested in moving into investment banking. I know PNC has a capital markets program that includes DCM and they also own Harris Williams and their M&A practice. I was wondering what the process is like to internally transfer programs after the internship, how hard it would be to lateral to Harris Williams, or if I will have to do their 2 year corporate and commercial banking development program if I get a return offer. Any insights into this process would be greatly appreciated. Additionally, if you have any other advice on moving to a different bank for IB as well.

Thank you.

What would an internal transfer look like? Would I have to re-recruit or just take the offer and see if an opportunity comes up down the line? How long would it approximately take to do so, I was thinking 1 year maybe? And also is PNC a good spot to move into private credit?

I know someone that interned in treasury then landed a FT offer with DCM. They give summer analysts in other groups the first opportunity to interview for IB/Capital Markets spots at the end of summer.

I know someone who went through their program years ago and I’ll say this. If you want to do true IB don’t go to that place it’s not an investment bank they have no real presence in the market unless you are ok with DCM and even then it’s “Okay”. Do the internship and get a better offer from another bank.

Currently in the same exact situation as you however I'm looking to pivot into private credit/levfin. I plan on networking as much as I can with anyone and everyone over the summer to see where the best fit could be for me at PNC if  I end up returning and not receiving another FT offer elsewhere. You mind if I PM you?
