PoC Bankers

For all the PoC who aspire to be careered bankers, this one is for you.

If your team does not include even a single PoC at the VP & above level, avoid this team like plague. They might have great culture, deal flow, and comp. Take my advice and thank me later.

Climbing the ladder requires sponsors and in this polarized society the maximum diversity white senior bankers are willing to tolerate are white women (or women in general). To them being a racist is fine as long as they are not labelled misogynist. In fact, one of the easiest ways to spot a racist senior banker is to notice when they bring up diversity, most if not all their efforts are geared towards gender diversity and yet when they criticize DEI in private conversations it is always racial DEI which is minimal by bank’s audit reports.

Clearly rage bait and not taking advice from a "banker" unable to spell ladder — pls fix. Thx.

Yes it’s more evident in regional offices where HR oversight is limited. Issue is they want to reduce competition for white men to climb the ladder as for some unsubstantiated narrative they are being overlooked which is funny as majority of senior slots are occupied by white bankers.

Convenient way to do this is by hiding behind DEI mandates and pushing PoC men out pretending the bank wants to prioritize women (mostly white). It’s a win-win for all parties except PoC men. White junior men are happy as less competition, white seniors are happy as they will collect DEI accolades. Beckies get much needed validation and $$$ too and now they can proclaim boss babe status.

This one will trigger a lot racist virtue signallers who have made DEI promotion a personality trait. You will always see them promoting women, mostly white women, and during layoffs always targeting competent PoC men.

I have a to disagree. Poc banker in Houston and I gets lost of love and mentorship at my shop. Though it is very sweaty. Seniors definitely brag on me a lot. In my face and behind closed doors(vp has told me) I agree tho the top is very white. Maybe because I’m a “bro” before anything else idk.

Should be fine. Usually becomes an issue once you are up for VP and above promotions and you would need sponsors as team needs to filter. Pretty much every one gets AN to AS promo as long as they meet minimum competency threshold.

Just proved OP’s point. Keep playing the white victim card and abusing merit in the name of Gender DEI.
