First off, tell your friends to fuck off if they get annoying about your salary. Would probably avoid that topic in the future. More importantly, I don’t think you owe your parents any part of your salary, let alone 50%. Part of being a parent is providing for your children - I would say it is the base level of responsibility. You can give them however much you want, but you should set some boundaries and make it clear that your money is your money.
