Power, Utilities & Infrastructure Technicals

Anybody know where the best place to brush up on PU&I technicals would be?

Is there a website or dedicated guide that anyone recommends? I have all the generic IB ones, I was looking for something more Power focused.

Cheers.

For brushing up on Power, Utilities & Infrastructure (PU&I) technicals, here are some of the most helpful resources based on WSO's top-rated threads:

  1. Enverus Knowledge Hub:

    • Visit Enverus.com and explore their Power & Renewables section. Specifically, check out the "IRA, Energy Transition Research, 2023 P&R Outlook" webinar (focus on the first 24 minutes).
  2. SEIA (Solar Energy Industries Association):

    • Their "Solar Market Insight Report" (Executive Summary) is a great resource for understanding solar market trends and technical insights.
  3. Mercom Capital:

    • Offers clean energy reports, which are highly detailed but may require a subscription. Their insights on battery storage and renewable energy trends are particularly valuable.
  4. Zpryme:

    • Check out their reports on the U.S. battery project and capacity trends. This is useful for understanding the battery storage business landscape.
  5. U.S. Department of Energy:

    • The "Battery Storage Valuation" report (pages 7-15 and 28-29) provides in-depth technical insights into battery storage and its valuation.
  6. Energy Sector Primer:

    • If you're looking for modeling guidance, the Energy Sector Primer threads on WSO suggest focusing on NAV for E&P, PV10 discount rates, and other energy-specific modeling techniques.

These resources should provide a solid foundation for PU&I technicals with a focus on power and renewables.

I don't know if there is any one good place to find this information, but I would make sure you understand how the rate base mechanics work. This only applies to utilities, and you won't be expected to know every nuance, but rate base mechanics are basically the one technical element in infra that doesn't have a direct analogue to in general IB.

It would be very beneficial to know, at least if you are looking at anyone that deals with the utility space, how to start with the rate base to get your authorized earnings and how that flows into your actual financials.
