During my 6th interview at a IB superday I was asked how many cheeseburgers do I think are consumed in the US each year? I was pretty tired and honestly couldn't even begin to think about talking through some kind of nonesensical thought process about it and just replied with "too many." Then realizing I had to actually give a number, I used overly simplified assumptions working from large to small. Anyway, how much emphasis is put on brainteasers during interviews? Seems like a question like that is just plain stupid.
