Follow this one kid on LinkedIn and over the past couple of days I’ve noticed that multiple teams have received a 1st place award in whatever competition they are in. Seems a little fishy and fluffy. Anyone have any insight? Was considering this as a backup option for a Fall Internship, so I’d like to know how it’s perceived.

The whole point is to network with potential future employers who want to hire diverse talent and to learn real estate. There is no point in worrying about winning whatever award.
Their competitions are structured so that there are typically only 3-4 teams competing against each other, hence the frequency of "1st place" posts. Like the comment above, there is no point worrying about the awards -- the point of the program is to network with all their partner firms.
