Promotion Process in BB IB - Up Or Out

Does anyone have any insight regarding the promotion process in banking specifically for BB. Is the process really up or out? What does it look like from analyst to associate and associate to vp? Thanks for your help.

Generally yes at least through Analyst -> VP at structured programs

Analyst: 3 years (some places now offering 2-year accelerated promotions) Associate: 3.5 years VP: 3 years (sometimes 4) Director: Varies widely - I work with some Directors who have been at that level 5+ years (and frankly likely won't make MD but they are good execution guys and their main MD keeps them around for that role and to offload smaller/less attractive/less important mandates to a trusted partner)
