Question about lateraling and bonus $
First time lateraling, recruiter asked when my rating year was and how much my bonus was. Straight up asked how much I’m leaving on the table. I gave him the top bucket percentage and said I’m 8 months into the rating year. Why was this asked? How am I going to get paid, if at all. Thanks
TO CLARIFY: received a verbal offer, that’s when this was asked. And I’m speaking to a recruiter working for the bank,
In my experience, it’s asked to figure what they’ll offer you in writing and your contract in terms of base and bonus. They might give you a full or pro-rated bonus given that you’re giving up 8 months worth. Since you don’t know what you’re getting in this bonus cycle, they’ll typically got off what you got in previous years by looking at your compensation structure/payslips or however it’s done at your current firm.
Got it, so this is done as an upfront sign on?
Are they really going to ask for my bonus pay slip? I didn’t know what to say so I said 50% which is the analyst bonus for top bucket at my bank
Depends on the firm/division but my bonus was given in full at the same time they give bonuses to everyone, not as sign on.
They also did ask for proof of my bonus. You can add that your bonus was top bucket and if you have something to back that like references, even better. Otherwise they’ll have to take your word for it.
