Question on Selecting Precedent Transactions

When trying to figure out which transactions are the most comparable, I understand that you want similar size, within 1-2 years, industry/sector, type of purchaser, etc. But typically where is the trade off i.e. would you take a a transaction that is more recent and same industry/sector or possibly an earlier transaction with a strategic purchaser rather than financial?

Is that just the art of selecting precedents that comes with experience?

What are your thoughts on the rankings of importance for creating the final list of precedent transactions?
