Question regarding internship

Asking for a friend- Freshman at a target school and have secured an Investment Analyst Internship for Summer 2025 at a medium-sized Insurance and Finance company (e.g., Growmark, Midwest Insurance). For Summer 2026, should they focus on applying for internships, even though it might be challenging to get something better as a sophomore, or should they consider a summer study program in Europe instead? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
