Questions on UK hiring and professional atmosphere.
It seems like the UK is more lenient on undergraduate studies for IB hiring. Are there any other significant differences in the hiring process?
And behaviorally, how do the professional relationships differ from the east coast of the USA? (NYC / Boston). More or less team oriented? More or less client relationship oriented?
More lenient in what sense? I'd argue the US is far more lenient because you can actually network, giving non targets a shot. That shit barely happens in the UK.
The only other cultural difference is that we actually take our holidays.
Lenient on study majors? Or am I wrong in that?
And for the target school focus, is this generally true throughout IBs of all size, or just BB? And does this apply to US schools as well?
Lenient on majors, yes but provided you go to a super target
Someone doing pure philosophy at like Emory is still fucked
Most Europeans won’t know the best U.S. schools, so good schools like umich / Gtown won’t hold as much weight here and will be seen somewhat like a semi target (when they are better)
You are better off there regardless, even MM firms will pay more than the top BBs here
Thank you! I'm not as concerned with the pay as I am with the personality fit, honestly. I have an accounting degree from a US semi-target and am relatively new to IB world. I am in my 30's though, and my resume is quite interesting, so I'm hoping I can somehow finagle my way into having a meaningful conversation with a group of people as tenacious as myself.
MBA???
As the other guy said, the US is lenient in the same way. As long as you go to a top target, study whatever you want.
Same applies here.
The only people I've ever seen get into banking in London from US schools are like HYP/Ivy Leaguers. That said this is perspective of top BB. Regardless a US student coming to London to work is quite uncommon altogether in IB. Generally if studying internationally, your school needs to be a target otherwise London recruiters simply don't care.
Not sure where you got the idea about undergrad hiring as that's not the case anymore
Predominantly it's European candidates with Bocconi / HEC / ESCP with French/Italian/Spanish and 3+ OCs aged 23 and above, not the traditional UK UG.
I've heard of a 35yr old intern that was at bnp...
