RBC Group Placement Process

Hey guys,

I am wondering if anyone on here could shed some light on the RBC Group Placement process for incoming summer analysts. Is it something that takes place before or towards the end of your internship? If I do not have many contacts within the bank, should I be attempting to network with the groups that I desire to be a part of? Also, bit of a different note, but should I have any concern regarding retention rates for 2023 SA considering current economic climate?

Open to hear any other advice / insight on the process. Thanks!

I cannot speak to the full process, but you get put into a group before you hit the desk. I would go ahead and start networking,  no reason not to in my opinion, but don't be annoying and 2023 is still pretty far away so I don't think you need to worry to much about offer rates at this point.  I think if things get really bad in the next few years, then maybe we would have to worry.

You start the placement process for your summer group in March-April, they give you designated people to reach out to start networking in each group. Then you rank the top 5 groups you talked to, saying why you want to be in the group, who you talked to in that group etc. and each group does the same. Then HR matches you based on those rankings.

For FT, if there is mutual interest and space, you have the option to just return to the group you interned with, or you can go through the same process again

Thanks for the help. Is there any need to network with desired groups before the placement process networking begins? Only asking because the person above mentioned networking prior.

Did you network post-accepting offer with any groups prior to the 'official process'?

You mind sharing what your experience was like? I'd appreciate it tremendously.
