Reaching Out

I wanted to ask about how to reach out to your BB SA interviewers if you haven't heard back. There have been some threads about this but i can't find them.

I've received a few offers but probably been placed on the waitlist at said BB. How exactly do you reach out to them saying you've gotten other offers even though you've told HR?

Here's a quick template I wrote up for you. I'm sure it will get critiqued for its professionalism, etc, etc, but at least it will get the conversation going.

XXXXXX,

I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to interview me last XXXXXX. (Pick one:) [It seems like you guys have a really good team] [I really enjoyed your question about XYZ] [It sounds really interesting to work in QRS]. You guys are clearly my first choice (Assuming this is true), but I've also received offers from A, B, and C, and they need to hear back from me by XX/YY/ZZ (Also assuming this is true- it's very important NOT to lie here, as they can easily verify it). I'd like to work for you guys, but if I don't hear back from you by then, I will have to accept another offer. In any case, it was great getting the chance to meet with you and I hope our paths cross in the future.

Thanks again,

ZZZZZZZZZZZ

I would just reach back out to the bankers and check in to see how they have been. Continue by asking if they've happened to hear about any further movement in the process, and then mention that you don't mean to rush the decision, but you've received an exploding offer or two with another BB or boutique, etc, and while you would prefer to work for this bank (their bank), you don't want to be left without any opportunities for the summer.

There's nothing wrong with this at all - you don't want to come off as arrogant or annoying, but simply mentioning the offer is valid - you've waited patiently, but your offers are now exploding and instead of just accepting, you want to do the right thing by everyone and find out about this opportunity before letting the other banks know of your decision. Don't make more of it than it has to be - honestly, if you don't get a response soon, then just accept one of the other offers and send an email to your contacts letting them know your decision and thanking them for all of their help.

Remember, this is only a SA position, so it is definitely possible to just keep in touch with your contacts at the BB in question and land a FT position in another year. Good luck and don't burn bridges; they'll come in handy for FT recruiting.

thanks for the great advice UIUC programmer and BoB.

Do you guys suggest sending such an email only to the interviewer you connected best with, or to all of them?

That's a good question. I'd recommend only sending it to the one or two that you connected with best. My thinking is that these guys are going to talk anyways. As long as you get the information to the person or two who wants to hire you most, it should get to everyone else. Not sure how it will look if everyone gets the same email. That said, I'm a capital markets guy, so I defer to BoB if he has different advice.
