I hated my summer but have hated my two years on the desk even more to a point that I didn’t think possible. Plus, after 1-2 years, you really get to see the staggering damage that long term sleep deprivation does to your mental and physical health. 100% would not do this shit again and regret doing it. If you’re having doubts now, reconsider please.

You’re not alone, I also did not like my summer. I interned at a solid MM bank and I enjoyed the work a lot but hated the politics with a passion. Staying in the office just because a senior was there (who often wasnt doing work either) just because it was “good for optics.” Fake deadlines, “urgent tasks” that never get implemented internally or sent to the client, getting ETA’d on things that don’t have tight deadlines, etc. Hours were tolerable but I know in the long run I would likely get burnt out due to the combination of everything I mentioned above. It sucks because I worked so hard to get in, but at least now I know it’s not what I want in life and I think I’m okay with that. I am happy for those that enjoyed theirs (and are enjoying their careers) but I will definitely be looking for roles at smaller shops or different roles entirely.
