Really how bad was Washington Mutual failure?
I’ve noticed that the effects of the banks that have failed in 2023 don’t seem to have had a substantial impact on the economy (yet?). All depositors have been secured and backstopped, and all the equity and debt holders of these regionals (who took risks) are getting wiped out - as they should. So I’m wondering really how bad was the Washington Mutual failure in comparison to all the failures we’ve had this year? Was it just a culmination of WM and Lehman (along with others) and simply the times that exasperated the WM failure?
