I received an offer from Jefferies and I’m inclined to take the offer however I have some concerns. The clawback seems really brutal for laterals and the culture of course is tough.
My questions are: Does the clawback kick in even if you’re leaving for (1) Corp dev (2) get fired
I feel the experience is great but the claw back seems like the deal breaker for me. Should I be patient and try to lateral?

Clawbacks are usually pretty tough to enforce if you are laid off. Fired for cause is different, but I imagine can still be difficult to get that money back. As for leaving for a different role, whether Corp dev or not, yes they usually do apply.
Clawbacks don't kick in until you're an ASO or higher. Also, if you were to move to a different bank or go to the buy side, your new firm would usually make you whole (i.e. pay your clawback for you).
How do you go about asking your new firm for this? Is it understood that this is a responsibility of theirs or is it something you have to negotiate?

They didn’t do a reference check and their process is random af so it really depends on their mood
