Recently accepted an offer from a firm which is contingent on a background check. I didn't lie on my resume, but here's the situation.

I have an internship currently which requires that I complete three 20-page reports by the end of 8 weeks to obtain a "quality certification" that will enable me to post my role on LinkedIn/resume. I only completed 2 of the 3 reports by the end of the internship, so I wasn't able to obtain the certification. When I applied to the position at this firm, I put on my resume that I was working this internship and completed 2 reports (which is true). But because I did not get the certification, I will be forced to take it off my resume/LinkedIn, which will be suspicious as it makes it look as if I lied about my position. What should I do, and will the background check catch this discrepancy?
