Recruitment Agencies and In-house HR?

So, I’ve noticed that it’s fairly okay to reach out to recruitment agencies - associates there and talk through opportunities with them; what about in-house HR people from particular firms?

I’ve sent request to few people from BBs and they’ve accepted. I’m not sure if it’s okay to send them a message asking about opportunities or letting them know I applied or ask for coffee chat / call or is it not advisable? Thank you!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's generally more effective to reach out directly to the team you're interested in rather than HR when looking for lateral opportunities in investment banking. The IB team typically has more say in the hiring decisions. However, if you've already connected with HR professionals from BBs (Bulge Bracket banks), it's not a faux pas to send them a message. Here's how you might approach it:

  1. Express Gratitude: Start by thanking them for connecting with you.
  2. Be Direct and Professional: Clearly state your interest in opportunities at their firm.
  3. Attach Your Resume: If you've applied, mention the position and attach your resume for reference.
  4. Request for a Chat: Politely ask if they would be open to a brief chat to discuss your application or any potential opportunities.

Remember, HR professionals are there to facilitate the recruitment process, so it's perfectly fine to communicate with them, especially if they've accepted your connection request. Just be sure to keep the conversation professional and to the point.
