Renewables Banking in Canada
I'm curious if anyone has information on the renewables/sustainability/cleantech coverage groups in Canada. I know that CIBC has been focusing on this more recently, as have RBC and Barclays. Any clear winners yet? Standout MDs or banks?
Interested
RBC / CIBC / BMO seem very strong and each does it very differently. Though I suspect all the Canadian banks will keep getting better on it as more budgets get allocated to expanding the groups.
I know some has been done out of Calgary due to the involvement of energy companies in the transition generally, how about in Vancouver, Toronto, or Montreal if you've heard?
I believe the majority of the work across the board is done in Toronto and they fly out to Calgary. An exception is National which is a Montreal based team
Heard its sweaty
CIBC also has some Calgary based people (rest in Toronto).
Yes, I think these banks are investing the most. CIBC has made some high profile hires in Canada and the US. And see the recently announced BMO acquisition of Radicle.
Bmo also has an IB team dedicated to energy transition. Pretty small but I’m pretty sure they’re looking to build it out.
