Rerecruiting for FT After a Summer in Corporate & Investment Banking

Sup

I’m planning to spend my upcoming summer working in a Corporate & Investment Banking group in a tier-2 city (ATL, Charlotte, Dallas) focused on bigger debt transactions, including leveraged finance and sponsor deals. My long-term goal is to transition into traditional coverage IB or M&A in NYC for full-time opportunities.

I’m currently at a non-target/low-tier semi-target school with a 3.7 GPA, and I wanted to ask: How challenging would it be to rerecruit for these roles in NYC after a summer in this type of group? Specifically, I’m interested in the potential difficulty of making the transition from a non-coverage group in a tier-2 city to the more competitive M&A teams in NYC.

Would taking the GMAT and scoring 720+ help strengthen my candidacy and improve my chances in the process?
