Curious how much respect different banks have for PTO. During my internship last summer I was surprised to see all levels completely respecting it, with nothing expected from anyone on PTO. Is this normal? I was warned by older bankers I know that PTO is a fallacy, but that's not what i saw at all.

It becomes more of a fallacy as you move up. Typically what an analyst is doing can be handled by the associate or another analyst if needed, so for analysts PTO is real. As you move up it becomes harder to replace your role on a deal. The only time I have seen PTO be across the board honored for more senior associates and VPs is for honeymoons.
