Russian Graduate needs advice
Hi guys,
I am native Russian speaker, and speak English fluently. I have graduated Russian University (TOP 5) with bachelor's degree in finance. I am 22, and would like to break into investment banking, M&A specifically.
Economic situation in Russia is not so good now, that's why there are no open vacancies in IB, PE, boutiques at all, and those which are opened very rarely, always filled in within less than week. For your understanding: BBs like GS, MS etc. take only 1-2 summer interns per year in IBD, and off-cycle internships come up VERY rarely. That means only 10-20 guys can break into IBD in Russia per year, compared with 1000s of graduates per year. So the chances are close to 0-1%
I need some advise from those who work outside Russia.
- Master program (don't know what country is better).
- I thought about Asia (Bejing, Singapore etc., but after reading this forum, seems that these guys are looking for Ivy league grads with fluent Mandarin). I thought it is not extremely hard for internationals to get an offer in for example Bejing, but now I am a bit confused.
- I thought about UK/US, but after reading the forum, I realized that banks do not want to bother themselves with international students/Visa issues, and they prefer local students, first of all because of native english.
- Seems like EU is my best choice. But again, after graduating in Europe, the goal of all international students is to get an offer in London.
- What are the countries, in which I can find a need in Russian native speaker in IBD. Seems like native Russian doesn't make me stronger on CV.
Hope you understand my problem and thanks in advance for your advice.
