No way to say unless you try. I’d imagine that for some banks it won’t be a problem and at others it will be. 
 

When I was recruiting I felt like everyone wanted to hear that they were my number 1 choice and that I at least had a strong idea for what group I wanted to be in. If you apply to multiple different groups then it might seem like you don’t know what you want.

On the bright side though, you don’t really *have* to choose. There are tons of banks (around 30) at the BB/EB level and there are really only 6-7ish super competitive RX banks. There are also around 10 competitive MM banks where you can easily recruit to MMPE in the future if you desire. Recruit hardcore for RX at those ultra competitive banks if you really are interested (since RX kicks off first) then if you don’t make it, recruit hardcore for M&A everywhere else. If you really have no clue what you want then work your hardest at getting an offer at Lazard since you’d have a generalist summer there.
