SA smoke breaks?

I'm working at a BB this summer. Assuming it's in-person, how bad is it if I have to crank one like every two hours? Pretty sure I'd be on the 30 something floor too. Will my superiors recognize that I'm just a real one or are they going to fire my ass if I'm not as productive as my peers? Can I dip at the desk? Note - nic patches and gum just don't do it for me and vaping is for pussies.

Nah. You should be good to take smoke breaks every couple hours. Just ping your staffer and let him know.

This.

OP - A summer stepping out 8x a day to smoke is not a good look, sorry. I can only think of a handful of people in IB who smoke and it's seen as a negative... you are not a "real one" for stepping out and constantly smelling like smoke. You need to at least recognize there are alternatives. Juuls are acceptable in most offices

The stereotype of the smoking, drinking, steak-inhaling banker is a bit stale. A lot of the younger Type A people in IB nowadays are way more health conscious than the average person - think intermittent fasting, keto/ paleo, 5am gym/ CrossFit, marathons/ triathalons, tracking every metric that is trackable. Smoking and other indulgent behaviors still exist but you will look and operate like shit by your second year

Alright, jeez it's my body but whatever. I quit cold turkey as of 30 min ago. Wish me luck.

Bro just live your life the way you want. I wouldn't push my luck by asking for a smoke break constantly, but if you want to have a smoke, I think it would be fine. So many of the same people who say "smoking is bad" also chug gallons of hard alcohol and proceed to pop adderall every morning in a vain effort to recover from their sleepless nights.

Would switching to something like zyn nicotine pouches be a better option? They're spitless and I'm sure you can take it out whenever you're in your cubicle and nobody is looking.

Don't need to be in Houston to play chaw dogs at the office.

I come from down in the valley, where mister when you're young, they bring you up to do like your daddy done

I can count on one hand all the i-bankers that I've ever worked with who smoke (unless you count being drunk at a closing party and having a random cigarette).  Just remember in i-banking 'the nail that sticks out gets hammered down'.  Having neck tattoos might not impact your ability to be effective at your job but I'm pretty sure you'd have more trouble getting a job in the field than someone who doesn't.

Just out of curiosity, why wouldn't vaping be frowned upon but smoking would be? Surely you have to go outside and take a break to do either? I'm guessing analysts or anyone for that matter wouldn't vape at their desk. Is it the odor that annoys people more than anything else?

Smoking cigarettes is kind of a boomer thing, while vaping isn't. Also, people that smoke tend to smell and you can't say the same for people who vape.

Start your day with a couple of glasses of scotch and sober up in the office with a couple of Marlboro reds.
