San Fran IB ----> NYC PE possible?
Recently received an offer from Centerview Partners in their SF office and am obviously very excited. However, I want to know how common is it for analysts to move to a different city when recruiting for PE after 2/3 years. I am originally from NYC and would want to move back after my analyst years to be closer to my family and don't want to spend my entire career in SF.
P.S: I got into the SF office for Centerview because that was where my entire school's alumni network is and the people I talked to do recruiting for that office. I also asked them if its possible to move me to NYC office and they said no.

Not remotely on the same level. CVP NY >>>>> CVP SF.
CVP SF pay is still insane though.
This is blatantly false. Many top MDs in consumer and healthcare (both of which CVP is near top in) based out of SF.

easier than other way around, many funds fly out.

Did BB in SF to PE. It's not uncommon at all, I don't think that the biggest variable is your office. Rather would be 1) your fdeal experience, 2) the amount you prep and 3) how well you can articulate your connection to NY. Obviously more factors than this but you can control #2 and #3 well.
Did you have to fly up to NY on very short notice?
Yes, it's doable. If for some reason it doesn't work out, you could also lateral while in banking to the NY office after your first year and recruit from there. Either path has been done many times
