Senior in ECM origination (what do they do?)

Can someone explain to me what a senior (VP, Director, MD) does in ECM origination (presumably with a sector focus)? What does the day to day look like in terms of work? Any insights on what comp looks like? I can find high level explanations with a google search but nothing beyond: "they pitch/participate in bakeoffs with corporate clients for potential ipos/secondary/etc" - I'm looking for a bit more detail as this seems a bit too simplistic.
