Should I apply for FT IB roles while interning this summer?

I'm currently interning in IB in the public finance team this summer. I like my team but I'm not sure if I would like to do FT in public finance, was thinking maybe it would be good to get different experience in a different group as my career is just getting started. I see GS opens their applications tomorrow and JPM is already opened. Don't see much from other firms like MS, Citi, or BAML yet.

At a pretty big middle market bank but I'm thinking of trying to get into a BB. Should I just try and apply for these FT roles at BB when they open? I'm paranoid if I do, somehow my team will find out and not give me a return offer, which I will accept if I can't get FT assuming I get a return offer in the first place. Also when are interviews normally for FT?

Go ahead, your team won’t see your application to other banks IB programs.

Being realistic, at my top group at GS/MS, we’re taking ~60% of our interns so I frankly think you have a 0% shot at getting into a BB IB spot if you’re not already coming from another, seeing as we don’t even have space for our current interns.

Damn only 60%? I guess mind as well apply in case if I don't get a return offer. Also do you know when interviews are? Is it right after internship?

Intern at a BB rn, would love to return where I’m at but am interested in applying elsewhere also for security. If someone reached out to my team for a reference/confirmation would it have an effect on my chances of staying?

No one will reference you until after the internship. You’d have to be in late round interviews which typically happen in Sept since banks don’t have a headcount of converting summer analysts. Can’t hire without firm numbers. This may be exceptions at EBs that have moved their timeline up.

Apply apply apply. always better to have a backup option even if you think you have the return in the bag. The good thing FT interviews don’t happen until after the summer since groups are not 100% what numbers will look like. My offer came in late fall for a better firm.
