Should I take an internship at NYC Office of the Mayor my Freshman Summer?

Hey everyone, I'm a freshman at a target school, and I happened to land an internship at the Office of the Mayor in New York City. I want to go into investment banking after college, and I was wondering if this would be a better internship than say, PWM at some regional branch. It seems like I was one of the only freshman to actually land it, so I'm pretty psyched. However, it isn't finance related. If I'm hoping to land a spot in a rotational program next year, would this internship be looked upon favorably or unfavorably. It's full-time, 5 days a week, 8 hrs/day. Oh, and it isn't paid (yikes). Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the type of work you'll be assigned and department you'll support. If you're working with well connected individuals, then it is definitely a good opportunity to leverage. You should go for it, unless you have better options elsewhere. Just my thoughts.

Give it a try...

Take it...and take a paid weekend job or something (if money's an issue and they allow it). I hear waiters at high-end places make good money on tips.
