Hello, I spoke with some professionals who work in investment banking and they recommended I take the Securities Industry Essentials Exam (SIE), which is now the pre req to take the series 7 and 79 which bankers take. It does not require sponsorship. Any input from employers and recruiters who look for this as it basically gives some relief to firm's that this candidate has gotten one of the exams out of the way? Are you saying you would have this done before interviewing?
Yes correct, since it is now required prior to taking the top exams.
Doing this before recruiting would have little to no impact on your competitiveness. It's just not something banks will care about
I have the SIE and it has not helped me at all. Bankers will say it is good to have it and that you will have little less stress down the road. But as said above, you are not more competitive in recruiting if you have it.
I agree with all those that said it doesn’t really won’t help. The materials in the SIE aren’t really that relevant to investment banking (M&A).
Cart before the horse — not really a reason to take it if you’re not in finance, but if you’ve gotten a job, you’re firm will train you / pay for it.
