Sonenshine Partners

Has anyone heard of the firm Sonenshine Partners before? Stumbled across them on school's career portal. On their website it looks like an extremely small firm (less than 10 bankers) but seems like they have done some legitimate deals in the past.

There hasn't been any postings about this company on the forum before so I am curious to hear everyone's opinion.

I interviewed with them last year. They're a boutique bank with some nice deal flow (1-800 Contacts, Lavazza, Alcoa, etc). Their deal flow actually falls in the upper middle market, which could be a good and bad thing, depending on who you ask. An argument for this being a bad thing is that the bulk of M&A deal flow is in the middle market, as opposed to the upper middle market. An argument for this being good is that you'd get to model and work with some nice sized companies and possibly get better experience. They don't have associates, so the analysts really have to pull their weight, and then some. It's run by an industry veteran, Marshall Sonenshine, who really knows his stuff and is really involved in the firm's day-to-day operations. As for exit opportunities, I've seen some guys lateral to Greenhill, Morgan Stanley, as well as exit to PE firms like Carlyle.

Hope this helps.
