Sophomore Internship Advice

I am a current sophomore at a top NESCAC. I am hoping to end up in IB and as recruiting for SA 2022 is coming up sooner rather than later, I am in the hunt for an internship this coming summer. I have no previous finance experience (besides the material with what I have taught myself). What are your recommendations in terms of securing a post sophomore year internship? Should I target alums at smaller firms I am interested in and make a non straight forward ask?
