Sophomore nontarget curious about Junior year summer recruiting

I am a sophomore year IB club student currently in my summer going into junior year at a non target, yet still have plenty of alumni connections in current & former BB and linkedin connects who are analysts at BB from my school, my neighboring school and IU Kelly.

I am currently still studying technicals and behaviorals along with perfecting my valuation and modelling skills after JP Virtual experience nuked my confidence.

Where I lack (in my opinion) - My gpa is a 3.0, not ideal. I do not have a analyst role for this summer YET, and my networking so far has consisted of friends in IB club, my professor who is a Morgan IB alumni, and blindly sending linkedin connects (which works tbh).

The next stage imo would be learning how to network. I rarely outreach to my connects mainly because I am not sure what to say. I do not want to ask for handouts blatantly, and have little experience with coffee chats and what strategic questions to ask to somehow pull a referral for junior summer. (any advice is much appreciated)

I also need experience this summer/fall to be a competitive applicant yet my window for summer recruiting closes much sooner than I thought, not to mention I am off cycle for summer 2026 recruiting. I want to hear some insight on this one specifically if anyone has any suggestions or criteria.

Lastly, I just want to say I know I am late, I don't need to hear that over again. Better late than never I think. Although I have heard senior year summer is even harder. I am shooting for BB, as many have offices in my state. Some middle markets have HQs too. btw, I have also considered a target MBA on the off chance I fail, but that is a hail mary.

literally all of IB and many other finance fields are done recruiting even small shops. def try for an MBA atp unless you want to do consulting but anything IB wrapped up 4+ months ago

Nice ad for a website. I've seen it on at least 3 threats already

Just clarifying the first commenter, IBSA 2027 roles have finished recruiting in the last couple of months. More importantly, 3.5 is unfortunately the bare minimum, especially at a nontarget. In addition, any decent mba program is going to prioritize and require at least a year or two of full time work experience. Instead, you need to leverage your family, professors, upperclassmen, and really anyone you can land a chat with.

To be clear, do PE and FP&A roles also recruit this early?

I’m sorry to say, but you missed the boat. I wouldn’t waste your time trying for IB out of undergrad anymore, look into alternative career paths.

I see. Any suggestions?

Well reclassing is an option if you have the time & money, if not, either recruit for something else or FT

That’s still not happening with a 3.0 from a non target lmao

ye sad reality but IB might be done for me for now. gonna try summer BB analyst roles just not in IB. still these recruiting cycles blow my mind. Its like each one is entirely different.
