Sophomore seeking an investment banking internship

Hello everyone,

Just wondering how to find IB summer analyst internships for the summer of 2018 for sophomores. It seems that most summer analyst internships are suited for juniors and seniors. How do I go about finding internships online that are for sophomores?

Thank you very much,

NK

Unfortunately, a lot of the summer 2018 internship cycles have already concluded. I would suggest applying to many of the undergraduate "camps"/programs that many of these huge firms, like BAML/GS/MS/MBB/PWC etc. host in April or May. They use these programs to streamline candidates into their super days.

As of now, there may be a few companies that still have sophomore opportunities available but you have to really look for them and then network to get your application through. If you don't end up getting an internship, use this summer to do something extraordinary to include on your resume and make it look intentional that you didn't secure an offer.

Thanks guys! I do have a business/corporate finance internship with an advertising subsidiary of Omnicom Group lined up for summer 2018, but I want to go into IB as a career so am trying to get an internship that focuses specifically on that. The place where I work right now is a retail store, and I have met a few bankers there, and am planning to talk to them at some point in the near future. Do you think that they could get me interviews at this late point in time, or should I talk to them just for 2019? Thanks so much for all the advice guys. Means a lot.

I know someone who spun a good story from a junior year advertising business internship from a barely semi-target school and they ended up in IB at a BB for FT last year. It was a struggle, but I believe they had three BB superdays, a few large AM one, etc from what I remember. Basically, where there is will there is way I guess. You gotta be realistic, strategic, and never give up.

Same boat here, was actually wondering if most sophomores usually find themselves a SA or it's still quite common for 2020s to work in corp finance & other non SA internships. Especially with the upcoming 2019 recruiting season what should the timeline look like?

I believe as long as what you do is good work you can spin it off in interviews. I do know students who aim for EBs (or competitive groups at BBs) tend to have a sophomore SA position at a boutique or one of the programs BBs offer.

I interned at a local investment bank (12 full time employees) my sophomore summer, and it was a great experience. I think working there helped me during the recruiting process since I was already exposed to the m&a process, financial modeling, making pitchbooks, spreading comps and precedents etc.

I feel like most states have small lower middle market investment banks. See if you can find one and even offer to work for free. The experience is invaluable.
