Speaking with MD at place I got rejected at

I have a chat set up with an alum MD at a place I was in the process of. I just got a rejection though unfortunately. Don't see any point in cancelling the call. Should I just talk about it as if I'm still interested for FT?

Don't cancel the call.  When the call begins, say something like 'In the interest of full disclosure and recognizing you're a busy person, I just wanted to let you know I'm no longer in the process but if you do have the time, would still like to continue this chat because it would be great to get your general perspective'.  That way you give him an out (he won't take it), you seem honest, and you also seem like you're genuinely interested in what he has to say without sounding like you only wanted to chat to him to use him.

We’re you rejected after interviews? Or just a resume drop?

Regardless, I would still have the call, still talk about your interest and if they ask or if the topic comes up tell them you were rejected but you are still very interested in their firm for XYZ reasons and that hopefully you’ll get another opportunity in the future.

There is nothing to be embarrassed about with the rejection and it is good to have a connection who may be able to help you at their bank or somewhere else. If you were rejected without an interview an MD can also get you an interview if they want.
