Starting your own M&A shop?

I once met a Jewish banker who started his own M&A shop without any prior relevant experience in the form of an IB stint. But how would a person be able to do that without any sort of track record or relevant experience? What kind of lead up would starting your own shop without an IB stint require?

Well if you specify that the banker was Jewish I suppose you want the confirmation that he used the Jewish network

In the essence, M&A is a relationships job. If you have the network to reel in deals, to line up the right consultants and to find potential buyers you can run a successful M&A shop.

Of course, there are some additional things that come with track record like credibility for sellers and buyers and a solid inflow of talent.

Network is the key to starting in M&A.
