Stock based compensation & NOLs in DCF
1) When projecting all the items to compute the UFCF in DCF, should I consider stock based compensation as a non cash item? I read that some people consider it NOT a real non cash expense because it dilutes the existing shareholders. . . so I am not sure if I need to add it back to calculate UFCF.
2) I didn't understand why Net operating losses should be considered as a non core activities, therefore deducted when going from equity value to EV.
Thanks in advance
For stock based comp, there are 2 schools of thought: don’t add it back since it dilutes shareholders or add it back since it’s technically non-cash. If you decide to add it back, you have to account for the dilution impact by increasing share count to reflect the stock awards. Both methods are acceptable, it’s up to personal/firm preference which to use.
I don’t really understand what you’re asking with your second question.
thanks for your answer, no worry about the second question.
