Summer Analyst offers, which one?
Barclays Back Office commodities - Houston Imperial Capital IBD - New York JP Morgan Private Banking - Houston/Dallas/Austin
These are my goals: -Get into top 3 MBA after 2-3 years? -Good salary and bonus -Good lifestyle -Good experience
I don't care about private equity or any other high finance exit opps, and I rather not work until 3AM everyday. Just want a good salary before I do my MBA, and something that can get me into F500 corporate finance post MBA.
Need your feedback.....
Considering your goals, I suggest JPM Private Banking. Always avoid back office. Investment banking at a no-name company might be a better choice if you were interested in PE. If you want a more balanced lifestyle, and to get into a good MBA then JPM is the best choice as it is a good brand name and front office.
But don't count on getting into top 3 (H/S/W) MBA just with 2-3 years of work at JPM Private Banking. Top 10 is probably more realistic.
Actually, considering this is for summer analyst, I may suggest choosing Imperial Capital IBD then networking a lot to get a BB IBD offer for FT. Investment banking is more likely to get you into top 3 MBA than private banking. Then again, if you don't want to work until 3am, perhaps IBD is not for you. You really need to think about what you want to do for the next 2-3 years.
Gimmemoney,
If you take a look at your goals, you'll realize that a few of them are going to contradict each other. You want a good salary / bonus, but it is important that you maintain a good lifestyle. Given that you have extremely limited experience as an entry level candidate, in general dollars earned are directly correlated to hours worked. There are few exceptions. I think you need to weight your list of goals in order to decide which types of positions you would like to pursue. If you refuse to give up your nights and weekends (and that's fine), then you may want to consider working for 4-5 years before getting your MBA.
Thanks for your comments,
To be honest I wanna be closer to the markets, I rather analyze portfolios than build pitch books at 3AM. You said PB might not get me into H/W/S, but I was looking at these schools student profiles and I was shocked to see the various backgrounds pre MBA, so, I'm not so sure about that. Plus, I have a very unique background. Anyway what do you know of salaries in PB in these locations?
