Summer Analyst Recruiting - How would I pursue this?
I made the mistake of accepting an offer for a Big 4 Internship during the Spring of 2008. This was a while ago, before I decided that I wanted to go into banking. I realize that I am screwed for recruiting as most of it goes down during the spring. What should I do?
1) I heard that there was accelerated recruiting during the fall for people who are studying abroad. How would I go about pursuing this? I do not have many banking contacts, and I go to a semi-target. My resume is otherwise pretty good.
2) Do you think it would work out if I would just take days off my internship to do interviews? Do all the banks generally schedule their interviews close to each other? What about superdays - could I schedule them on weekends? How much flexibility is there with this?
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
are u at a target or a non target?
My school is not generally considered a target, but most of the banks recruit here for IBD.
1) If you get in touch with the recruiters early, they can typically work you in earlier. I had some friends who were going abroad early their second semesters and so would miss the whole interview season, and shifted them up to correspond more with full-time interviews.
2) Interviews will typically be one after the other, located in time by prestige. That is (at least at my school; they're all a little different) the big BBs will go first (falling, for us, at the end of our intersession break - that's a great way to spend a vacation), then there might be a few days, then the next round of funds and smaller banks, and so on. Often will have multiple different banks in one day; my best was 3 interviews with 2 banks in one day, but know of plenty of people who hit 3 banks and several more interviews in a day.
I went abroad second semester most banks do early interviews but you need a solid contact or to be from a target school. I know for sure that Credit Suisse, Bear Stearns, JP Morgan, Merrill, Lehman all do interviews sometime in December.
Morgan Stanley has an early interview process for individuals who intend to go abroad in the spring.
