Summer Interns with no Return Offer - What Happened

Hey, question for both those who didn’t convert and full-time bankers who have seen it happen. What was the main reason someone didn’t get a return offer? Have you ever seen a summer intern turn things around after a rough start and still end up converting? Is it really that difficult to convert?

For EU folks - what did you do?

Off cycles? Masters + re recruit for summers?

1) Do a master and try again summer internship
2) if not possible, try off cycle internships and full-time roles

What sometimes happen is people do a PE off cycle internship (which usually does not convert) and then realise that it makes interviewing for banks even harder as now they need to explain 1) why they could not convert their summer and 2) why they will not leave to PE as soon as they can
