I have a superday coming up but am studying abroad. The firm agrees to do phone interview instead. But is doing it over the phone a big disadvantage? Anyone with similar experience? I would appreciate any input.

Is this for a summer role or full time? I'm not sure your means, but if it's for a full time role you should put your butt on a plane and be there in person if you really want it.
Frankly, I'm surprised they're even humoring you with a "superday" over the phone. The whole point of a superday is being there for the in-person interviews, it's like hazing. Good luck, but I would do everything in my power to make it in person if you truly want it, none of the guys I know would give the nod to the person on the phone, there's just too many other good candidates that will build rapport during the superday that would be impossible to do without meeting face to face.
