going to my first superday and have some questions:
- is there a break room or a place you can keep some stuff like a small bag or something?
- do you get breaks between interviews or is it 30min back to back to back etc.? I ask to get a sip of water etc
- how do you prevent yourself from getting tired? is there a chance to down a small granola or something?

Yes, there will be a coat room, just show up a few minutes early. There will also usually be water available in your interview rooms. If you need to eat, ask to go to the bathroom and down it quickly there.

If anything I would have one of those 5 hour energy drinks and slam that in the bathroom. Eat a granola bar opens you up to tall kinds of risk like dry mouth and crap in your teeth. High risk move.
Damn. You're right. What have all you guys used to keep your energy levels up? Never had 5 hour energy - last thing I want is to start having spazms or jitters.
Well once again, I like red bull other like coffee, but it comes down to what you can slip in your jacket pocket. 5 hour is small and something you can keep in your pocket unnoticed. Given an idea choice I would say have a protein shake, but that isn't going to happen.
Maybe just get in a cup of coffee before?
You will need a bottle of water with you at all times.
Best thing --> bring a laptop bag (i assume you're flying into NYC) with a couple snacks and 3 bottles of water. They will probably have some for you but bring a couple just in case. Down the water between the interviews.
Definitely get some coffee in you before the day starts. I would not go for an energy drink unless you know how you respond to it.
damn i dont have a laptop bag. ill just get in some good coffee in the morning before i fly into NYC, stay hydrated and take it from there.
anthondyd, a protein shake? wtf? no caffiene in that, and they're more liquid so not very filling. also more voluminous than a 5hour shot so they'll make you pee more...i'm just sayin, yo
Just make sure you have access to water between interviews.
Seems like people answered qs 1 and 2 well, so here's my 2cents on #3.
I once had 7 back-to-back 30-40minute interviews starting morning and ending afternoon w/o a break. I carried a bottle of water with a little sugar dissolved, and would take a few sips between each interview. If you don't have that many interviews, it's not required. Also, you want to have a protein rich breakfast (I usually down a protein shake and few slices of bread before interviews). If you can wake up early, It also helps to goto the gym in your hotel (increases blood flow, and makes you more alert). Just make sure you don't get injured.
Don't try the 5 hr energy stuff if it's your first time. Otherwise, it might be helpful (never tried this for interviews, but was my saving grace during finals).
Err - 1) have water in the interview. You can drink it while you talk - who gives a sht - i would never ding you for that
2) don't eat too much - you'll get sleept
3) coffee makes you jittery unless you're a regular drinker
4) Ritalin / Aderall if you're a junkie / if you have legit access

I have a superday at a MM IBD coming up. They're flying me across the coast for this. Can anyone with traveling superday experience basically walk me through what to expect from beginning to end. What I mean is can you talk about what time you left for the airport, what you did when you arrived, what you do after the interview is over etc.? A really thorough walkthrough would be great.

Not that much different other than you have to go out to the physical location & stay in a hotel. Don't do what I did and get lost in San Francisco and the way to the interview.
I arrived and met with a man holding a sign with my last name, got in a 'black car'. Had soft wood for a little while because its the first time anything like this has ever happened to me, and I didn't even have to pay for it. Got to the hotel, it was amazing. Took advantage of the mini bar and slept like a drunk baby. Woke up, got back in another black car (marginally less exciting than the first time). Did the interviews, felt the same as a superday where I wasn't flown out. Taken back to the hotel in another car. Too scared to order porn on TV incase it showed up in the company bill, so I used my laptop. Flew back home the next day and never received the offer.

2 Super days, lots of intricacies - what to do (Originally Posted: 02/18/2013)
Okay, so I have two super days. One this Thursday, one this Friday. The Thursday interview is for a great NYC Boutique, the Friday interview is for a regional bank in capital markets (structured derivatives/securities, loan syndicate, etc.)
Here are the curveballs.
Friday interview requires Thursday night reception at 6:30PM. They have agreed to pay to fly me out and even given me a hotel night.
Thursday interview requires me to be available all day and will not reimburse travel expenses.
I would prefer doing the boutique > over the regional bank; however it is going to cost me probably $500+ for a round trip to NYC on such short notice. I can't really afford that...it seems like my only choice is to convince the regional bank to re-reroute me through NYC and convince the boutique bank to make sure the interview ends by ~3:30.
Any one have any advice? Should I ask the Thursday bank to reimburse me even though they explicitly stated in their email they won't?
It's worth the investment if you think the difference is that much and you really have a preference for the boutique. Just sack up and do it, you'll always regret not taking the chance if you end up at the other bank. Try and weave a narrative to get the regional to comp your NYC trip but that's tough to do... I'm sure there's cheaper ways to get to NYC from where you are than $500...right?
Food for thought: Do you really want to work for a bank that does not reimburse students flying in to interview for internships? They either have no money meaning shit deal flow or they treat their employees like shit.
Where is the regional bank interview?
I spoke to someone from the boutique and they talked about great comps (vacations, trips, etc.) and high above street pay. Regional bank is in Pitt. There are cheaper ways but they would take more than 12 hours (aka impossible).
Pay one-way to fly to NYC, tell them you have to leave by 3:30 (they will understand. If they don't, then skip the 6:30 dinner for the regional). Ask the regional bank to fly you from NYC to Pitt. It shouldn't matter to them from where you're flying in - the cost won't be much different.
I agree with blackhat. If you are not sleeping on the streets and can afford it, do it.
