SWE at an Asset Management firm to IB analyst

Some background about me:

Non target Physics and Math majors

I am 14 months into being a data engineer at a big name AM firm in NYC and the pay is low 6 figures fresh out of undergrad. I just got promoted to associate after 1 year with just a 10k bump.

I realized i am tired of coding and wanted to switch to a role that generated alpha, I want to meet new people instead of sitting in front of my computer coding to make trades go faster and cash in a check.

Has anyone else had a career switch from a software development role, data science or data engineering roles into finance?

If so what were the moves you took ( EX: 3-5 years as SWE to t-7 MBA)
