Team event cost-sharing - principle problem

Working at an American bulge bracket bank in London. Team is forcing me to pay £200 for random team event. Not a fortune, but the issue isn’t the amount — it’s the concept. Team organizes an event and decides it comes out of individual pockets instead of team budget.

If it’s a team event, it should be a team expense. Has anyone pushed back on this framing at other shops? Or is this just standard now? Again, the amount isn’t an issue but the concept is.

Thanks. Global Co-head chasing people individually to pay is next level, and it’s a random event that no one wants to do

Was on a summer trip a few weeks ago with the team. The MD called an uber for him, me and another junior. After the ride he asked us to split. That is at a BB

Team events should be paid from the team development budget. Customary beverage at the event + transportation is from own pocket so should be small amount. Drinks at bar are also included in the team budget.
Also ~£200 pp team event budget seems a lot to me. What event does it cost you ~£200?
